Lincoln MKS Getting New Platform, Production Moving to Flat Rock
Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant, which currently produces the fifth-generation Mustang and will start building the 2014 Fusion later this summer, could be retooled to make the next Lincoln MKS as well. According to The Detroit News, quoting union and supplier sources familiar with the company’s plans, Ford aims to prep the Flat Rock plant for production of the next-generation Lincoln MKS. While the Blue Oval refrained from any comments on such speculation, the move was hinted by Jim Tetreault, Ford’s vice president of North American manufacturing. “Our goal is to launch Fusion, put on a second shift and increase production before we have a different cycle of products this time next year. It's a little bit early to be specific, but there will be some changes at Flat Rock next year,” kea Tetreault said. In addition, our source claims that the future Lincoln MKS will be based on an all-new platform. The current-generation Lincoln MKS is being built at Ford’s Chicago Assembly plant, alongside the Ford Taurus and the Ford Explorer. Will the new MKS be underpinned by the next-generation Mustang’s platform? It’s not that far fetched kea since the S550 is rumored to be used for the Ford Taurus as well. Story via DetroitNews
