The dredger "Volvox Atalanta" is since this morning docked in the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, waiting to begin the work of pumping 700,000 cubic meters of black sand, to be part of the beach which is built on the coast of the island capital, adjacent to the promenade. Of 4,370 gross tons and 6,230 net tons, measures 94 m long, 17 m wide, 8.60 m and 6.77 m strut draft. The suction system is driven by powerful engines that can move a volume of 4,500 cubic meters to a maximum depth of 30 m. The ship can accommodate autoland 17 crew and sailing at a speed of 11.5 knots. IMO 9187019 Code.
